Places to play: Aoyama Middle School (public school)

 

Aoyama Middle School ('chuugakko'), near the Aoyama Itchome intersection, has two artificial lawn courts with lights.  The general public can use these courts from 6 PM to 8 PM Tuesday through Saturday.  The students' parents use the courts during Saturday daytime. 

To get usage, go to the Minato Ward Office (in Shiba Koen, same building where you do your alien registration), and on the 7th floor find the Sports Shinko-kakari (sports promotion official). You register there by filling out a form.   Sign-up for court times is done about two weeks before the start of the month of use.  A lottery is held if there are more persons desiring usage than court times.   

To find the school, get to the Aoyama Itchome intersection corner that has the Eiko clothes shop.  Next to Eiko, around the corner, is a Chinese restaurant. Walk past the Chinese restaurant and keep walking a few minutes.   You'll see the two counts on your left, inside the school athletic ground and near the street.  Keep on walking around a bend in the street to get to the school entrance. 

The Minato Ward Sports Shinko-kakari may be able to tell you about other schools that make their courts available to the public when the school isn't using them. Evening play is the most likely time available, and lights are needed for that, and not many schools have lights on their courts.
