Places to play: Ariake
(Tokyo Metro Courts)
The Ariake tennis complex is huge - 48 courts in all, with the Ariake stadium next door
which you can play in if you are good
enough. The official name is Ariake tennis no mori, which roughly translates as the Ariake
tennis grove. The atmosphere is
pleasant, with a lot of greenery around. The fees are quite reasonable, although you have
to go through the lottery to get use.
Ariake is on one of the nearer manmade islands in Tokyo Bay. By car, the access isn't bad,
just take the Rainbow Bridge and
get off at the first exit, Ariake. To get there by public transport, take the Yurakucho
subway line to Toyosu station, then a taxi
or bus from there to Ariake. The bus routes are Mon 19 Ko ?? ?? ??and Umi 01?? ???.
32 of the courts are hard, and of these 16 have lights. Another 16 are clay and without
lights. Use of the courts is through the
Tokyo Metro lottery system, so see that info page for details.
The address is Ariake 2-2-22, Koto-ku, Tokyo. Phone is 3529 3301. As with other Tokyo
Metro courts, go to the admin
office before going on the courts.
