Places to Play: Setagaya Park (Setagaya ward)

 

Setagaya Koen (Park) is a medium-sized park with  4 courts.  The park is on the very near side of Setagaya ward, a little ways past Naka-Meguro, so it really isn't that far by car or taxi from Hiroo.

Setagaya ward operates these courts through a lottery system.  You may be able to get details of the system at the park admin office, or by calling the Setagaya ward office.  The ward office used to have a section providing information in English at 5432 2892 weekdays except Thursdays, 9 to noon and 1 to 5 PM.

The park is in the middle of the area bounded by Yamate Dori and Kan-nana Dori and by Route 246 /Tamagawa Dori and Komazawa Dori.  From Naka-Meguro station, go north towards Ikejiri-Ohashi and Route 246 about 500 meters.   Turn left at the Aobadai Itchome intersection (there is an Art Coffee shop on the far left corner).  Go about 1500 meters on a two-lane street to the Shimouma Itchome intersection.  Turn right and go about 200 meters.  The park will become visible on your right, behind two very short blocks of buildings.  About 600 meters from the Shimouma Itchome intersection, turn right again to get closer to the park.  The courts are behind the baseball fields.
